Acne treatment alternatives shine following increased regulation

As international regulations increase for many acne ingredients, Unigen has caught a glimpse of success with Bakutrol, a patent pending anti-microbial ingredient for topical formulations.

Bakutrol, originally launched in 2010, is promoted as a revolutionary natural treatment for acne and acne scarring.

Contrary to popular treatments that are antimicrobial in nature, Bakutrol has proven to be well tolerated among users. Additionally, extensive in vitro safety testing has shown that Bakutrol is effective and has no adverse effects and is non-toxic.

Moreover, Bakutrol significantly reduces scarring or Post-Inflammatory Hyperpigmentation (PIH), the dark spots left behind long after the acne lesion has healed.

Bakutrol is highly compatible in formulation with other acne care ingredients, such as salicylic acid, and can be used as an active agent in creams, lotions, gels, masks and other cosmetic products.

Bakutrol’s origin lies within the seeds of Psolarea corylifolia or Psoralea glandulosa. In addition, it inhibits inflammatory pathways to clear up skin in the short-term.

According to the FDA, Bakuchiol, an important monoterpene phenol, is abundant in the seeds and has been reported to possess DNA polymerase inhibitory activity and show antitumor, antibacterial, cytotoxic, anti-helminthic, and anti-oxidant activities”.

The chicken or the egg helps in treating the acne

ImmunoDerm Y, from IGY Life Sciences, is extracted from an inoculated chicken egg using a patented extraction process which allows it to have the highest concentration of pure IgY antibodies commercially available.

ImmunoDerm Y is an antibody treatment tailored specifically for the prevention of acne skin infections caused by “propionibacterium acnes”.

IGY’s antibody technology works naturally with the body’s own defense system only targeting the chosen bacteria. The program is able to control and prevent acne of all types by destroying the bacteria that is common among all forms of acne.

Egg yolks of hen eggs are the single largest source of Ig antibodies (IgY) compatible with humans and other animals.

Natural alternative ingredients may increase the effectiveness of traditional acne ingredients as well as function as a natural stand alone ingredient to help with the occasional breakout.
