Ciba launches rheology modifier

The modifier is said to provide rheology control at low levels, specifically designed for use in skin care products. Its ability to provide care at low levels allows the modifier to offer multifunctionality and effectiveness, whilst increasing the efficiency of product formulation, with the company stating it is easy to add at any stage of processing. Catherine Ehrenberger, Global Head of Ciba's Home & Personal Care Business Line said, "the multifunctional benefits and versatility of Tinovis allows formulators to develop streamlined, cost-effective products that meet the performance requirements of today's dynamic skin care market​." Ehrenberger stated that the increasing variety of new products available is driving the fast-growing skin care segment - with skin care manufacturers now forced to find new ways in which to achieve effective rheology control 'without comprising the sensory attributes that influence consumers first impressions of the product'. The company claims that the Tinovis modifier adheres to these needs, combining together a patented liquid dispersion polymer technology with a carrier system. When combined together the two allegedly counteract the greasy feel and tacky residue problem common among some skin care products. This is done by enhancing key sensory properties such as smoothness, penetration and the ease of how the product applies to the skin. However, the Switzerland based company has suggested that the product is not only beneficial for modifying purposes, but is also designed to aid even distribution of ingredients, such as vitamins, to the skin due to its inherent leveling properties. Acting also as a primary and secondary emulsifier the product should be appealing to skin care manufacturers due to its ability to improve product aesthetics whilst also extending product shelf life. Launched at the In-Cosmetics show in Paris from 17^th​ - 19^th​ of April, the modifier will be the second showcase for the company, alongside the new cosmetic grade pigmented beauty range - Calisha.
