Symrise has launched a new anti-irritant made solely from natural
sources in a bid to consolidate its role as a leading supplier for
the lucrative naturals skin care markets.

The German based company has developed the anti-irritant skin care product using natural bisabolol and ginger root extract to counteract common skin problems found on the every day consumer. Targeting the booming skin care market, which allegedly now stands at $58bn worldwide, SymRelief is said to aid skin that is sensitive and prone to dryness, acne and aging by using anti-irritants IL-1a and PEG2. Symrise claims that the scientific process it has used in finding the correct ingredients for the formulation has been instrumental in the creation of the skin care product. Indeed, the ginger-root extract is said to intensify the anti-irritant effect of a natural sesquiterpene alcohol of chamomile. With the (-)-a-bisabolol very effectively inhibits the synthesis of IL-1a, ginger-root extract contains gingerols, which are known PEG2 inhibitors. With both substances being major mediators of skin irritation the product could be effective for consumers who are increasingly looking for products that are not only safe for application to the skin, but also safe for the environment. The company conducted an in-vivo study, finding that the product, a clear oil with no preservatives, was indeed effective for use at concentrations of 0.1 to 0.2 per cent. With market research analysts Organic Monitor predicting that the European market for natural and organic products is estimated to be growing at 20 per cent a year, and set to surpass a value of €1bn, the new active agent is being launched to the most vibrant segment of a booming market.
