Tocotrienols and tocopherols
Tocotrienols and tocopherols are members of the vitamin E family. Although EFSA approvals for the nutrients stop short of claims for maintenance of normal skin, hair and nails, this has not slowed down their popularity in the nutracosmetics world.
Malaysian company and market leader in palm oil-derived vitamin E, Excelvite, claims that tocotrienol is a potent antioxidant which is between 40-60 times more powerful than regular tocopherol.
Meanwhile, preliminary results of an on-going Ohio State University scientific trial into the use of vitamin E tocotrienol suggest that it is beneficial in reducing the appearance of surgical scars .
