A powerful antioxidant found in the skin of red grapes and Japanese knotweed, resveratrol is the reason behind the oft-repeated ‘red wine is good for you’ idea.
And while its anti-ageing properties have been documented for a while, a 2013 study published in Cell Metabolism revealed the science behind the claims - resveratrol enhances the binding between the protein Lamin A and SIRT1, an enzyme that contributes to cell regulation.
