Mibelle Biochemistry launches Snow Algae Powder
According to Mibelle, an extract of snow algae can protect the skin against environmental stress factors and improve the barrier function.
The algae grows in mountain areas in spring time in a green form and then turns red when there is too much UV-irradiation and a lack of nutrients on the glaciers.
The Buchs-headquartered company has developed a biotechnological process to grow this algae in glass tube reactors, with the cells then harvested and extracted for cosmetic use.
"Studies confirm that Snow Algae Powder stimulates the longevity gene klotho and activates AMPK, a master switch in the cellular defence system," say reps.
