Active lifestyles: on-the-go, portability & athleisure trend
Evonik, Lipotec and Givaudan are just some of the major beauty ingredients players making strides to tap into the trend for skin care solutions for active lifestyles.

Active beauty is a rising trend in the industry. The term relates to the increasing crossover between beauty and health and wellness, and the physical and emotional elements it involves for the consumer.

Here, we take a closer look at what’s driving major ingredients players to take note of this trend.

Education app

Givaudan last year launched a new educative  beauty app for its Active Beauty division, a step of its 2020 digital innovation strategy, and a sign that active beauty is a major focus for the ingredients player.

The app was developed through a project that involved collaboration with cellular biology experts, scientific communication specialists and digital application designers. It features two virtual reality experiences.

The development team was faced with the challenges of making the app simple to use and effective as an assessment tool, while also creating an accurate reflection of the complex structures of hair and skin.

“We are really proud to have the Active Beauty application now available on both Apple Store and Google Play," said Célia Goudin, Digital marketing project manager.

Lipotec and Azelis distribution deal

In November, Lipotec partnered with global distributor Azelis to bring its range of ‘natural-inspired’ active organics ingredients to Europe.

The ‘Active Organics inspired by nature’ range is split across four key areas: botanical extracts, fragrance ingredients, physical exfoliants and aloe ingredients.

The distribution deal suggests Lipotec is confident its products will have an impact in the European market moving forward.

Evonik’s Active Lifestyle concept

Specialty chemical company Evonik’s recent portfolio launches include an expanded collection of market-ready prototypes for active beauty solutions.

The Active Lifestyle Concept that Evonik has put together consists of five prototype products:

  • a “dry and light” deodorant stick,

  • an “exercise-proof foundation,”

  • “refreshing power” wipes,

  • a multitasking hair cleanser?conditioner dubbed the “all-in-one recharge for sport,”

  • an “after-sun energizing and nourishing spray.”

Active beauty is a niche that Evonik expects will grow and have some real longevity:“Sport and beauty are joining forces for collaborations that combine health and fitness with cosmetics.

“Evonik Personal Care offers a selection of inspiring formulation ideas targeting this trend.”
