Cosmetic Valley secures development funding

Cosmetic Valley, the umbrella organisation that represents personal
care businesses in Chartres and the surrounding region, south-west
of Paris, says it has helped secure funding for three research and
development projects.

Government funds have been secured for a project with the companies Pacific Creation to research skin ageing, Biochemics to establish alternative methods for the testing the senstivity of chemcial molecules, as well as project with Japanese player Shiseido to develop a new method to decorate cosmetic packaging. Pacific Creation is based at Chartres, and is part of the company BioEurope, which specialises in active cosmetics and is partnered with various research and development operations in the region. A €6.9m grant has been offered to Pacific Creation to further explore its collaborative work to develop effective products that help fight signs of ageing. Biochemics, has secured €2.8m in funding for a joint project that will be conducted with Biogalenys, Sederma and a team of biolgists from the University of Rouen to establish the alternative testing methods. The Shiseido operation, which is situated in nearby Ormes, has secured funding of €1.9m to partner with the Saint-Gobain Desjonqueres for the development of the new cosmetic packaging technique. The new projects add to a list of 10 research and development projects that are already under way with the help of the Cosmetic Valley's Scientific Council, five of which have received public funding. The current research project already underway include a €6.1m project to study the evolution of the skin as it ages, together with a €4.5m project to establish natural preservatives for personal care formulations and a €2.7m project to develop cosmetotextiles.
