France-based industry association Cosmetic Valley has given five of its member organisations awards for their eco-friendly credentials and achievements.

The organization launched its sustainability drive in 2010 under the banner, ‘ Cosmetic Valley for Eco Responsibility’, which awards companies between one and four ‘Pivoines’ – the French word for a Peony flower.

To date some 50 businesses have signed the Cosmetic Valley charter for sustainability, pledging to make improvements to the way their businesses are run by improving their sustainability and eco-friendly credentials.

Last week, during an award ceremony given in Chatres, to the southwest of Paris, the company awarded four of its members and one partner with awards that reflected their contribution to the charter.

The company has embarked on a number of eco-friendly activities in the past year or so, including partnership with a company to develop natural pigments from plants, together with an initiative to develop two new ingredient lines aimed at replacing synthetic preservatives.

Likewise Laboratoires Expanscience has also been expanding its green vision, including working alongside the Union of Ethical Bio Trade, together with changing the processing of its emulsion ingredients from a hot press method to cold press, reducing both time and energy use by 75 percent.

Finally, ID bio was awarded one Pivoine for its approach to quality and natural resources in the production of its portfolio of raw materials.
