While facial skin care has historically been a strong market, retail value sales in the category are expected to slow in 2015.
The continual level of new product development has sparked a trend of women switching to cheaper products, such as facial soap instead of face wash or cleanser, in order to incorporate new products into their routines.
Mintel says the trend for botanical oils, used for centuries in Eastern cultures, has also emerged in the UK market.
However as consumers become more familiar with these oils as skin care products, they are experimenting with them in their natural formats and supplementing or replacing facial skin care products with those more commonly found in the food aisle.
