Mobile imagery technology: A case study in engagement plans
Xu Hao, founder of Camera360, discussed the importance of advanced image technologies to boost beauty technology innovation within the mobile phone photography sector.

The startup is situated within one of the country’s eleven national software industry bases, located at Chengdu Tianfu Software Park, China, The national software export innovation base also houses a national service outsourcing base urban demonstration park.

After officially starting its business operations in 2005, the Tianfu Software Park has welcomed household technology giants from all over the world including IBM, EMC, Philips, Huawei, Alibaba and Tencent.

The park’s startup incubation, lab and support platforms offer services to business startups within the mobile internet sector.

Streaming and selfies

The CEO announced how the business would be leveraging the beauty economy, which today, is heavily built on selfie and live-streaming-loving consumers.

Camera360 is utilising mobile phone cameras and other hardware to appeal to its user base and target consumers in Southeast Asia, Japan and South Korea.

As it continues to strive towards “scaling new heights in deep photographic technologies”​, the company hopes to develop the mobile phone camera field and enable the "Made-in-Chengdu"​ product to go global.

Maths in beauty

Its mobile phone technology uses a professional image algorithm to cope with the facial features of different users, Hao explained, as phone cameras today retain skin texture.

Outlining how technological innovation acts as the foundation for product development, Hao shared: "Along with the beautifying function, we also come up with some 300 flattering filters of various styles. For us, the top priority is to tap into powerful technologies, and to make professional photos possible just with the help of simple apps."

Staying on-trend with new innovations and buyer demands, Camera360 has developed new-generation AI-powered painting engine, lightweight photography app Camera360 Lite, and an editing app for short music videos called Go4.

Appealing overseas

Focusing on the overseas market, Hao commented: "From the very beginning, we sought to serve not only domestic users but also photography enthusiasts of the whole world."

Female demographic

Xu Hao, the founder and CEO of Camera360 revealed in a company press release that 50% of mobile phone photo app users are female.

Unsurprisingly, therefore, the company creates female-dominated topics and user-friendly interactions, and engagement that communicates to females: "We all know that women are all sharing-minded creatures. Just look at how users share their photos about skin care, cosmetics, and clothing, we can see that user demand goes far beyond pure sharing activity.”

Next step: A social platform

Sharing how Camera360 plans to access user base and generate discussions, the enterprise plans to “build a social platform of international flavour for these sharing-loving friends, and offer 'close loop' services ranging from production to consumption”​.

“That's how we will enable each user to show to the world an ideal version of himself or herself,”​ Hao concluded.
