Lucas Meyer says phospholipids are the key to sensory success
The company’s new pledge is to ‘make you happy’, which it aims to do by highlighting sensory expertise that can give the cosmetic formulations the type of textures that has consumers coming back for more.

Sensory attributes of cosmetic and personal care formulations continues to be an integral part of cosmetics today. Getting sensory attributes right spells success; but getting it wrong is likely to lead to few return purchases.

Tying in with the consumers search for products that contribute to a sense of wellbeing, sensory attributes are about cosmetics formulations that trigger connections with luxury, indulgence, relaxation and pleasure.

Emulsifiers are the key to the right sensory attributes

Emulsifiers play the most crucial role in getting sensory attributes just right, and the development team at Lucas Meyer says that for the first time it is now able to guarantee the consumer will be able experience the desired attributes thanks to the hard work of its team.

So what is the key to this ‘guaranteed’ formula for success?

The development team believes it is all down to the inclusion of phospholipids in the emulsifiers, which help to invoke positive emotions. And this is what the team believes is the key to guaranteeing consumer satisfaction.

“In 2014, Lucas Meyer Cosmetics successfully demonstrated their added value by highlighting their hydrating powers with clinical studies and their ability to boost the efficacy of the active ingredients within a formula by increasing their bio-availability,” said Isabelle Lacasse, Lucas Meyer Cosmetics Marketing Director

“But now, in 2015, Lucas Meyer Cosmetics used various techniques developed by specialists in psychology and neuroscience to scientifically measure the pleasure that these ingredients induce upon application!”

The psychology behind sensory attributes

The company believes it has gone the extra mile to unlocking the secrets of getting sensory attributes right by using in depth research to analyze the behavior and psychology reactions to different formulation textures.

The research the company has based its emulsifier development on relies on the behavioral response to formulation texture by measuring a range of emotional responses, including facial micro-expressions and variations in vocal intonation.

In measuring the responses to Lucas Meyer Cosmetics’ emulsifiers using these and other triggers, the company says that it noticed a high increase in parameters that confirmed positive emotional response, when compared to a placebo.

Lucas Meyer experts will be demonstrating the company’s emulsifier range and discussing the clinical trials at the forthcoming in-cosmetics Barcelona, April 14 – 16, at booth 6B50.
