Wacker launches two silicone-based ingredients
Germany-based fine chemicals player Wacker has recently launched a resin elastomer gel for skin care and a novel emulsion for hair care that are both derived from silicone.

BELSIL REG 1100 is a silicone gel that is said to give long-lasting effects in cosmetic formulation, while also giving a soft skin feel, while BELSIL ADM 6102 E is a silicone emulsion that is said to act as a highly effective hair conditioning agent.

The skin care resin elastomer gel combines the skin sensation produced by non-crosslinked silicone polymers with the film-forming properties of silicone resins, the company claims.

Gel has enhanced active properties

This combination is said to give the gel multifunctional properties as an active ingredient for skin care applications as well as decorative cosmetics, as well as leaving a water-repellent film that contributes to the skin softness.

The film also serves to make topical cosmetics longer-lasting as well as transfer-resistant, attributes that are particularly valuable for color and decorative cosmetics. In particular, Wacker claims that the inclusion of BELSIL REG 1100 in lipstick formulations can serve to make them more ‘kiss-proof’.

The transparent, colorless gel also has the increased flexibility of being a solid when at rest, but can then undergo a reversible conversion to a liquid state in response to be rubbed on to the skin.

The company claims that its shear-thinning attributes means that when used in formulations it brings about easy application and spreads readily over the skin, on top of the silky feel of the film.

Softer hair at lower doses

BELSIL ADM 6102 E is being marketed primarily as a hair care ingredient for additional hair softness. It is an aqueous macroemulsion of an amniofunctional silicone, that has been developed so as the silicone active agens optimizes the delivery of hair conditioning properties.

Effective at low concentrations, this ingredient is said to adhere well to the surface of the hair, does not crosslink and makes hair easy to comb, bringing additional softness and smoothness, even to severely damaged hair.
