Ingredients supplier Aqua Bio Technology has turned to the experience and market knowledge of personal care distributor Presperse as the exclusive distribution partner for its Aquabeautine XL ingredient in North America.

"Partnering with a recognized and innovative market leader as Presperse is a significant accomplishment for ABT, and provides us with a perfect launch pad for our continued push into the North American market", said ABT's CEO Arvid Lindberg.

The agreement will also cover non-exclusive distribution for the South American markets, with Presperse marketing Aquabeautine XL to its portfolio of developers and manufacturers of skin and personal care products.

Greg Torchiana, CEO, Presperse Corporation, stated that the distribution agreement has presented a unique market opportunity for his company, due to the innovation behind the ingredient.

Benefits for both parties

"By bringing together ABT's innovative ingredient and Presperse's significant market access and formulation expertise, Aquabeautine XL will be made available to all the leading personal care companies looking to develop a new generation of skincare products and solutions", he said.

"We are thrilled to have been selected as [ABT’s] exclusive North American distribution partner".

ABT revealed the target customers will include high-end brands, mass market as well as the professional skin care segment.

In addition, the ingredient will also be made available through Presperse's rapidly growing distributor network located in the South and Latin American markets.

"Presperse are leading industry professionals with a proven record for successfully launching and supporting new and innovative ingredients", continued Lindberg.

"Their vast resources, including their in-house development capacity and direct ownership by Sumitomo, will provide a significant accelerator for our growth efforts in North and South America. This agreement opens up the doors to the largest and 3rd largest markets for cosmetics in the world, the United States and Brazil respectively".

Derived from salmon

Aquabeautine XL is a marine-based ingredient that was originally marketed as an exfoliant, although studies initiated by the Norway-based company have shown that the enzyme contained in the ingredient has multifunctional properties for skin care.

The ingredient was initially targeted for its exfoliating and moisturising skin care applications, and is derived from the hatching fluid of salmon, where the enzyme Zonase allows the fish embryo to hatch from its egg by digesting the eggshell without harming the larva.

As an exfoliant, the company claims that this process of digesting dead tissue in the eggshell while protecting the living larvae is the key to the ingredient, as it gently stimulates skin renewal without harming the skin.
