Rhodia has released a pearlising agent and "green" surfactant at
In-Cosmetics in Amsterdam that are both formulated to help
manufacturers tackle rising costs.

The France-based company is honing in on the green trend with its new plant-based surfactant called Miracare Plaisant which is biodegradable, sulphate-free and renewably sourced. Soft and refreshing feel Rhodia spokesperson Denis Guillan told CosmeticsDesign.com that the other key selling point of the ingredient is its distinctive soft and refreshing feel that will help manufacturers retain customers. In addition the surfactant is pre-blended and therefore cost effective and convenient because formulators do not have to process and heat separate ingredients, added Guillan. Alongside this ingredient Rhodia launched a pearliser called Mirasheen Star at In-Cosmetics that was also developed with cost reduction in mind. High performance at low levels Rhodia claimed the ingredient delivers outstanding shine and opacity at low inclusion levels so formulators need to use up to 40 per cent less than a market alternative to achieve the same effect. Guillan said manufacturers are working hard to keep costs to a minimum, especially in the US, so suppliers must adapt to their needs. In addition to its cost benefits the company claimed the sensory impact and shine of its new pearlising ingredient signals high quality to the consumer. The release of these ingredients at In-Cosmetics comes soon after the roll out of other innovations for the hair and skin care segment including a liquid surfactant Miracare SLB and a conditioning solution Polycare Boost. Rhodia claimed that these additions to its range offer superior feel and texture and position the company to make major strides in the industry. "With these innovative and creative solutions, we have strong ambitions to become the preferred provider in specialty cleansing and conditioning," said Rhodia spokesperson Sebastien Meric.
