Icart plans to close Barcelona plant
confirmed that it intends to go ahead with plans to halt production
at its plant in Barcelona.
The company has informed its workers' committee that it intends to close the plant in the Cornella industrial zone, where a workforce of 48 people is employed, according the web news provider Expansion.com.
The production facility was opened in April 2004, and focuses on the manufacturer of skin care products. It covers 8,000 square metre and as a brand new production centre, it contains state of the art facilities. In total the company employs around 100 staff, which includes sales and front room staff based throughout Spain.
Icart was bought out by US group Church Dwight in 1993 and has expanded to specialise in a variety of skin care products, including depilatories, together with feminine hygiene products.
Church Dwight is an international company specialising in the production of a wide range of cosmetics and personal care products. Its Arm & Hammer brand is recognised worldwide in both the deodorant and oral care categories.
In the company's most recent financial statement, dated August 9th, Church Dwight mentioned that it was considering several 'operational improvement programmes' that it would aim to implement by the end of 2005.
Last year Dwight Church was impacted by $12 million in expenses for both write-offs and inventory charges, which in turn led to the on-going aim to cut costs.
