Chemicals giant Dupont has teamed up with Strand Cosmetics Europe to create a brush-formula tottle for a range of colour cosmetic applications.

Dupont Cosmetic Solutions, the groups dedicated cosmetic packaging provider, claims that the company’s Surlyn resins for the tottle helped to create the framework for the design, which aims to provide users with a flawless complexion.

According to the chemicals company, Surlyn has carved out a reputation for its glass-like properties when used in injection moulded applications, while it can also bring aesthetically enhanced characteristics when used as an outler layer of a multi-layer blow moulding cosmetic container.

Tottle makes its mark in colour cosmetics

The tottle has become popular for colour cosmetic applications because it can be combined with a brush or other applicators to provide a controlled and flexible application of delicate substances such as eye shadow.

This jointly developed tottle had been designed to give controlled dispensing of the product upon use, which has been achievable partly due to the stiffness and spring back effect of Surlyn, Dupont claims.

Likewise, the glossy look of the tottle given by the outer layer of Surlyn resin positions this tottle as a for a range of specialised cosmetic products.

Resin provides durability and enhanced pigmenting

In addition to the glossy look, the resin is also said to provide significant resistance to general wear and tear, and especially scratches, while it is being transported or being handled on retail shelves, giving it a more durable appeal that consumers are likely to appreciate.

Finally, the transparency of the resin is also said to provide added enhancement to any kind of pigment that might be used in the intermediate layer of the three layer moulding process, giving it a superior effect that is cost effective compared to other coatings.
