L'Oreal backs Sanofi's bid for Aventis
French pharmaceutical company Sanofi-Synthelabo, part owned by L'Oreal, has launched a hostile takeover bid for its larger rival Aventis, in a move which would create a top three drug major.

Poland to keep cosmetic excise duties
Poland's public finance committee has recommended the government to keep the excise taxes on cosmetics. The decision - reached by a marginal vote - makes the country the only EU member state to harbour such a duty.
