Clarins has launched AI Skin Observer to offer its customers advanced skin analysis.

The French beauty company is deploying the technology in 20 stores worldwide, including John Lewis Oxford Street in London, Printemps Haussmann in Paris and La Rinascente in Milan.

A simplified web-based version is also available online via the Clarins website in several countries, including the US, UK and France.

Combining artificial intelligence with the in-store advisor experience

AI Skin Observer is a tech‑savvy mirror that analyses up to 22 skin parameters, working with both biophysical sensors and facial images captured using multiple lighting modes. It can give customers unique information about their skin and enhance the expertise offered by in‑store beauty advisors.

Clarins brand General Manager, Katalin Berenyi, said the AI Skin Observer is designed to fit seamlessly into the retail environment. “Through its ease of use, it allows beauty advisors to remain focused on listening to the client and her needs,” explains Berenyi.

“It extends their expertise by revealing dimensions invisible to the eye, thanks to algorithms leveraging years of research from Clarins laboratory. By combining AI, beauty tech with human touch, beauty consultations are enhanced.”

Beauty Tech as a growth driver for Clarins Group

Clarins said the AI Skin Observer was developed with the support of an ecosystem of start-ups and is the result of years of fundamental research into skin analysis by the Clarins laboratory, alongside the Group’s advances in AI and imaging, particularly within its Beauty Tech division.

The launch is the latest innovation from Clarins Group’s Beauty Tech division. Previous developments include the Lip Oil Factory, which offered on-demand customisation of its Clarins Lip Oil product, as well as the MyBlend LED mask.

In December 2025, the brand launched a D2C customer service app in partnership with Merkle to enhance its customer experience. While in May 2024, the business also trialled an AI-powered customer care bot, Clara, using Microsoft Secure and Azure Open AI Service.
