The French cosmetics multinational L’Oréal has announced that it will set up a beauty tech hub in the south Indian city of Hyderabad, positioning it as a global base for AI‑driven beauty innovation.

At the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, L’Oréal CEO Nicolas Hieronimus and the state government of Telangana formalised the partnership.

The business said it will make an initial investment of over 35 billion rupees (€331m) and create 2,000 tech jobs between now and 2030. The move will also accelerate the development of advanced AI‑based beauty solutions.

Telangana has rapidly emerged as a key investment and technology hub in southern India.

Investment, jobs and advanced AI capabilities

The first‑of‑its‑kind Beauty Tech Hub will serve as a flagship centre for creating the beauty giant’s artificial intelligence‑powered innovations and services.

The hub will become L’Oréal’s “global powerhouse, unleashing the potential of data, AI, generative AI, and genetic AI, alongside emerging technologies”, the company said in a statement.

“For over 31 years, L’Oréal has been deeply committed to India,” said Hieronimus. “Building on this legacy, we are harnessing India’s world‑class tech and AI engineering expertise to power our new global Tech Hub. We believe that the future of beauty lies at the intersection of science, technology and creativity, so Hyderabad will now sit at the heart of our AI and digital ambition.”

The Indian centre will play a key role in L’Oréal’s existing global network of tech hubs in France, the USA, China, Singapore, Spain, Poland, Canada, Brazil and Mexico.
