Global specialty chemicals company Elementis plc has today acquired UK-based Alchemy Ingredients Limited for a value of $22m (€19.99m).

Green cosmetics ingredients business Alchemy mainly creates sustainable rheology modifier ingredients for the personal care industry across a range of cosmetics and skincare applications.

Its products are natural functional ingredients that fully or partially replace synthetic raw materials in cosmetic formulations. Its key technologies revolve predominantly around oil gelling (with the Sucragel and Sapogel products) and water gelling (Clearthix and Sclerothix).

These technologies can complement Elementis’ existing strengths in rheology and formulation solutions and pave the way for new textures, sensory experiences and sustainable formulation alternatives across the personal care industry.

Alchemy has a track record of strong organic growth, with FY25 revenue expected to reach more than $6m (€5.2m), with attractive margins.

According to Elementis, Alchemy brings exciting new products and technologies that are complementary to its portfolio, which will help the company create new sensory profiles and textures to enhance the Group’s cosmetic and skincare product range.

Meanwhile, Elementis’ support can allow Alchemy to work with its global sales and distribution network and alongside its complementary technology and application knowledge.
