The innovation was showcased again at NYSCC Suppliers’ Day in early June and will be seen again at MakeUp in New York in September, and also at California SCC Suppliers’ Day in October.
The innovation is a concentrated leave-in treatment that’s over 98% natural origin (ISO16128), as well as silicone- and surfactant-free. It’s to be applied to damp hair to offer bond-building technology, styling control, detangling and conditioning care.
Designed with patented formulation technology, biotechnology, and green chemistry, the formula features CAPSUM’s multi-patented technologies and consists of two formulas – an emulsion and a microfluidic encapsulated gel – which exist together in a single chamber but mix and activate upon use.
The companies explained that this means it essentially reinvents the dual-chamber packaging concept but uses less plastic.
Biotechnology & sustainable design
Curie Co’s proprietary biotech platform has created Curamina™, a novel bond-builder that instantly creates essential peptide bonds around the hair cuticle when paired with proteins and peptides, sealing the protein to the hair and providing a long-lasting film around the hair fibre.
This is featured in the formulation along with plant-based protein and Citropol® DE-4, an award-winning and globally compliant high molecular weight polymeric emollient made by green chemistry. It offers a sustainable replacement for silicones and heavy esters.
Citropol® DE-4 itself is made from terpenes, the natural oil of pine trees, and designed to enhance the sensory experience of natural formulas while providing conditioning and detangling benefits to hair.
CEO of Curie Co Erika Milczek noted that Curamina™ was a great example of how biotechnology can unlock multifunctional performance through sustainable design.”
“Green chemistry and biotech have the capacity to deliver unique and innovative solutions that check all the boxes,” said Oihana Elizalde, CEO of P2 Science.
“We’re thrilled to see this unique collaboration come to life, bringing together three science-forward innovations to create an elegant concept that represents the future of hair care.”
Marketing director at CAPSUM, Isabelle Ricart, said that this was why its proprietary technologies were made for “intelligent formulations that can house potent ingredients and deliver a unique consumer experience.”
She continued to say: “It’s skin care science applied to hair. A modern, eco-conscious package and formula, featuring modern and eco-conscious ingredients that deliver results.”
