As we see more crossover between cosmetics and aesthetic medicine, the cosmetic injectables company Teoxane has put more focus on creating dermocosmetic products.
The Swiss brand has just launched its first exfoliating scrub, Active Microscrub, a hybrid product (priced around €50 for 50ml) designed to hydrate and strengthen the skin’s barrier while removing dead skin cells.
Volcanic glass & papain enzyme
The formula is a sensorial transforming gel-to-milk texture made with scrubbing grains derived from volcanic glass that is infused with skin-benefitting minerals and papain enzyme – a polypeptide that exfoliates the skin while accelerating cell turnover.
It also features a key ingredient from the brand’s dermal fillers, RHA (resilient hyaluronic acid), which is a “crosslinked form obtained from a patented process to provide optimal skin hydration,” according to Teoxane.
Product development & clinical studies manager for dermocosmetics at Teoxane, Laure Peslerbe, explained that Teoxane’s RHA uses a unique crosslinking technology that consists of creating covalent and irreversible bonds between the chains of hyaluronic acid. “This makes it more resistant to degradation and ensures it forms a porous breathable mesh on the skin surface, trapping water and maintaining hydration,” she said.
Peslerbe added that this “provides a clinically proven triple action formula that increases water content in the epidermis, strengthens the skin’s barrier reducing transepidermal water loss by 27.8%, and maintains skin integrity whilst smoothing the skin.”
Mechanical exfoliation and enzymatic exfoliation
In Active Microscrub, RHA was been added to the formulation to complement the benefits of mechanical and enzymatic exfoliation and give optimal hydration.
“Exfoliators can sometimes be harsh due to their abrasive nature, so we created a dual-action scrub that combines the mechanical exfoliation from volcanic grains with the enzymatic exfoliation from papain,” Peslerbe continued.
“The mild exfoliating effect results from the perfect balance of volcanic microgranules, which provide immediate physical exfoliation, while papain complements this by offering a gentle enzymatic action.”
The enzyme works on the stratum corneum of the skin by hydrolysing the peptide bonds in collagen and keratin, which “stimulates a skin repair mechanism and therefore results in smoother, softer skin.”
“By using this approach, we don’t need a high percentage of grains, which helps us respect the skin’s tolerance,” Peslerbe explained.
Strong innovation pipeline
In late 2025, the brand also plans to launch an ultra-hydrating mask that boosts hyaluronic acid and collagen production and strengthens the skin barrier.
Going forward Peslerbe shared that Teoxane has a strong innovation pipeline for dermocosmetics and will launch between two to three new products per year, as it “aims to strengthen its position as an expert anti-ageing range.”
