Robertet eyes Asian and African expansion with Sonarome acquisition

Grasse-based natural raw materials business The Robertet Group is set to acquire Indian flavours company Sonarome to expand its business in South-East Asia and East Africa.

The Indian flavours company Sonarome is based in Bangalore and is currently owned by the Gulhati family and IFF.

The company achieved sales of over €15m in 2022 and has been recording double-digit annual growth for the past three years.

It employs more than 100 people and Robertet noted that it has extensive, modern and certified industrial production capacity.

It also said that the business is renowned for its R&D strategy, flavourists and creative expertise, as well as its in-depth knowledge of local trends.

After the takeover, Sonarome will continue to be managed by Chairman and CEO Nitesh Gulhati.

Six acquisitions in the past five years 

India is one of the world's leading flavour markets, and a leading producer of natural ingredients.

Robertet has already been established in Mumbai for 20 years and in recent years it integrated Goldfield Manufacturing Pvt Ltd, an Indian company that specialises in perfumes, into its business.  

Managing Director of Robertet Jérôme Bruhat said the acquisition, which is Robertet’s sixth acquisition in the past five years, was in line with the company’s internationalisation strategy and represents a milestone for its development in India and Asia.

“With our unique positioning in natural flavours, new local industrial capacities expertise in flavours, we have all the assets we need to become a major player in this specific market, a major player in this specific market,”​ he shared.

Meanwhile Chairman and CEO of Sonarome Nitesh Gulhati said family-owned company Robertet shared many of the same values as Sonarome, making it a natural partnership. “Our shared culture creative excellence, combined with our expertise in the Indian market, gives us a unique position to serve our loyal customers,” he said. “I look forward to accompanying Robertet in its expansion in India.”
