Probiota 2022: Microbiome markets and probiotic predictions set for day 3
A spotlight on regulation, market opportunities and countries to watch, as well as the skin microbiome and discussions about the future of the industry are day 3 highlights of Probiota 2022 in March.
Scandic Copenhagen
Our venue for Probiota 2022 is the Scandic Copenhagen. A Modern, centrally located hotel with magnificent views of the Lakes and Copenhagen skyline.

Now in its fifteenth year, the annual event draws to a close on the 30 March with a line-up that places forward thinking, predictions and the future at the heart of day 3’s deliberations and discussions.

The day kicks off with a regulation-focused panel that welcomes Tanne Severin Holm, Special Veterinary Advisor, Danish Veterinary and Food Administration and Brian Kelly, Partner in the European Life Sciences group, Covington & Burling, to the proceedings.

They’ll be joined by David Pineda Ereno, Managing Director and Consultant on Strategy, Policy and Regulation, DPE International Consulting, to discuss the very latest in microbiome-related regulation in Europe and beyond.

With efforts made by The International Scientific Association for Probiotics and Prebiotics (ISAPP) to clarify the term ‘postbiotics,’ the industry looks set to nail down definitive definitions that also include ones for probiotics, prebiotics, synbiotics and fermented foods.

The discussion also looks at the kinds of market opportunities available with the discussion extending to the countries set to make a big impact on the industry in the future.

The Skin Microbiome

The day moves swiftly on as CosmeticsDesign-Europe editor Kacey Culliney takes to the stage to host the panel discussion, “The Skin Microbiome 2.0 – Oral care, scalp care and beyond.”

A seasoned journalist and editor Kacey will be joined by Marie Drago, Founder of Gallinée and Margherita Patrucco, Innovation and Product development at Probiotical, to discuss the science characterising the skin microbiome space.

As industry gets to grips with new gut-skin axis data, mechanism of action findings and results beyond body care – think oral and scalp care – Kacey and her guests will go into detail as to some of the segments to watch and the kinds of potential for ingestibles and topicals.

Probiota ends on a high as Stephen Daniells, Editor in Chief of NutraIngredients-USA, Ewa Hudson, Director of Insights, Lumina Intelligence George Paraskevakos, Executive Director, International Probiotics Association (IPA) and Bruno Pot, Science Director Europe at Yakult Europe take part in the final panel discussion.

Titled: “Where next for the industry?” the discussion will focus on product innovation, re-engaging consumers and microbiome research to ask, How can all stakeholders in the industry – scientists and business leaders work together to ensure that a market slowdown does not become a steep decline.

Our panel of experts will review the themes of the last few days and discusses what the future might hold for the industry.
