ANJAC Health & Beauty will buy fellow French personal care contract manufacturer Roval Cosmétiques in a move set to strengthen its presence in France’s health and beauty category.

ANJAC Health & Beauty – a Paris-headquartered industrial group specialised in the formulation, manufacture and filling of cosmetics, food supplements, medical devices and drugs – will acquire Normandy-based Roval Cosmétiques, a specialist in personal care and perfumery formulation and manufacturing for brands and private label.

Full details of the deal were undisclosed but Roval Cosmétiques totted up €100m in turnover last year and comprised three French production sites and a fourth close to Barcelona in Spain. The company also had Ecocert certification for the manufacture of certified organic products.

Post-acquisition, ANJAC Health & Beauty expected a turnover of €400m.

‘Made in France’ health and beauty expertise

ANJAC said the deal not only increased its industrial reach but also enhanced its ‘Made in France’ expertise and enabled it to become a “strong player in France’s health and beauty sector”.

According to retail data shared by trade association Cosmetics Europe, France remained the second-largest cosmetics and personal care market in Europe, generating €11.4bn in sales for 2018.

Aurélien Chaufour, group CEO of ANJAC Health & Beauty, said the deal offered the company an opportunity to also expand its innovation capacity.

“It fits perfectly with our strategy of high industrial standards and continuous investment, with the aim of always better serving our clients and our high added-value markets,” Chaufour said.

Yannick brunet, former director of Roval Cosmétiques, said Roval would be able to “make a contribution” to the ANJAC Health & Beauty group, sharing skills and knowledge acquired during its 40 years of operation in the hygiene, hair care and perfume categories.

Clean beauty US expansion

The acquisition followed ANJAC’s recent expansion into the US clean beauty market through its purchase of California-based Cosmetix West – a company that turned over around €37m in 2018.

ANJAC said that deal had also given it stronger presence in the J-beauty and men’s personal care markets.
