The internet-of-things sampling platform company announced the partnership last month—a deal that gives Aptar and its beauty dispensers business reach in the digital retail space as well as an additional service Aptar can offer existing and prospective clients.

London-based Odore got its start in 2017 and launched its IoT device in 2018. As Cosmetics Design – Europe editor Lucy Whitehouse explains it, the Odore “device is based on a simple premise: consumers [share] personal data in exchange for free samples of perfume product.”

In his remarks to Cosmetics Design – Europe following the device launch, company founder Armaan Mehta emphasized that the Odore device is “much more that a sample dispenser. It is a real research and marketing tool that collects data to create rich customer profiles.”

Whitehouse summarizes Odore’s beauty tech nicely, writing, “The appeal of these types of technologies is built around offering consumers more engagement and experience, while providing brands with insights and data which can be applied in other parts of the business.” (Read the full Cosmetics Design – Europe article on Odore here.)

Fragrance packaging partnership

In the latest Odore press release, Mehta (who serves as co-CEO of the company) says, “We are delighted to have partnered with Aptar, and with their industry expertise and extensive range of clients, we aim to develop on these synergies and grow our offering to the beauty industry.”

Odore places its devices in conventional and travel retail spaces, such as department stores, hotels, and lounges. And, according to the release, the quick Q & A data-gathering format works because of the company’s fragrance profiling tool that takes consumer preferences, habits, and lifestyle in to account.

As a marketing tool, the Odore system “links this sales process by contacting consumers with further product information and directing traffic to the brand’s website in order to purchase,” as the company release explains.

Sample size fragrances

The deal means that Odore devices will dispense fragrance samples in Aptar’s patented Imagin dispenser. And it also gives Odore the chance to access to Aptar’s global fragrance clients “such as Dior, Puig, Coty, and Eséee Lauder, to provide an all-in-one solution for beauty brands, from production to the distribution of the samples,” according to the press release.
