In acknowledgement of the company’s efforts when it comes to the areas of the environment, worker conditions, fair trade and responsible purchasing, Naturex has earned a gold standard.

EcoVadis is a platform that scores corporate social responsibility performance has awarded Naturex its "Gold" rating.

The group received a score of 62/100, earning a spot it in the top 5% of companies rated by EcoVadis.

This score is based on the company’s performance in four areas: environmental friendliness, work practices, fair trade practices, and responsible purchasing.

Stéphanie Puel, Personal Care Business Unit Director, declared “This distinction recognizes the efforts made by Naturex teams and contributes to our reputation as a responsible and committed company to our customers.”

Naturex spotlight

Naturex sources, manufactures and markets natural specialty ingredients for the food, health and cosmetic industries, focusing on a robust naturals offering. It is headquartered in Avignon, France.

Swiss fragrance and flavours giant Givaudan recently bought a 40.6% minority stake of the shares in Naturex and says it is aiming to make a cash offer for the remaining shares in the business.

Givaudan paid a total of €522 million at €135 per share to buy out the stake in the France-based natural ingredients and food solutions provider.

Both companies have active portfolios that target the cosmetics and personal care industry, with Naturex expanding its footprint in that area with the development of its NAT Oleis oils for hair and skin care range as well as the Eutectys active ingredient range.

Challenges for naturals players

According to Ecovia Intelligence, specialist research, consulting & training firm whose website can be found here, a major challenge for global natural & organic cosmetics is the lack of a single labelling standard.

COSMOS and NaTrue are two labelling marks now established in Europe, however adoption rates in North America and Asia remain low.

The research and consultancy firm is holding a Natural Cosmetics Masterclass on the issue next week - 11th July 2018 - in London. Full details here.
