Meitu and US share ideas on social media in China
The photo enhancement app provider strengthens its cooperation with the US Consulate by discussing future commitment and activities to develop social media platforms in the Asia-Pacific nation.

The global leading mobile Internet company hosted a meeting at its headquarters in Xiamen with Colin Machado, Cultural Affairs Officer, the US Consulate General to explore the popular marketing channel.

With a selection of photo enhancement apps, smart hardware, and short-form video community platform Meipai, Meitu is committed to product developments and further launches that support its recent augmented reality and artificial intelligence-based features.

Social media in China and the US

During the visit, Hanze Chen, VP of marketing at Meitu relayed the company's development, its line-up of products and the firm's overseas expansion plans. The Chinese company also presented Meipai, its short-form video community platform, along with trends of live streaming to the visiting group.

"We are looking to cooperate more with the consulate on cultural projects and support their public service events," explained Hanze Chen, VP of marketing, Meitu.

"With Meitu and Meipai's well-established platforms and communities in China, the U.S. Consulate will be able to further reach the target audience for public good."

Videos go viral

To celebrate Chinese New Year, Meitu teamed up with the US Consulate in Chinese Zodiac Year of the Goat to produce a short video through Meipai, with the video was being posted on the Consulate's Weibo page.

"The video went viral among the consulate staff and was posted on our social media platforms. Fans liked it," expressed Machado. "That video gave us a character, and it was the most successful thing we've done in terms of public outreach."

Google and Facebook collaboration

Meitu witnessed a 29.5% year-on-year growth in overseas users in 2017. The year marked a key strategic period as it entered into partnerships with Google and Facebook. As a result, the photo app rolled out three AR effects in the Facebook app and collaborated with Google in advertisement placement in Hong Kong and Taiwan.

In March 2018, Meitu also launched a co-SNS campaign with AliExpress on Facebook, encouraging users to download BeautyPlus, a photo enhancement app that Meitu has chosen to help it build its presence in overseas markets.

"Our overseas expansion has grown exponentially thanks to our partnerships with Google and Facebook," revealed Xinhong Wu, founder and CEO of Meitu. "Through more cooperation with the American Consulate in China, we aim to serve a broader audience and promote their content with our social media resources for the public good."
