Personal care ingredient maker Jungbunzlauer to open tech center in US
The Swiss biotech company announced plans this month to open a facility in the US. Much like Jungbunzlauer’s AppliTech facility in Germany, the new ingredient technology center will allow the company to work more closely with local clients.

The company has been around since 1867 and serves a number of industries: food, beverages, healthcare, cleaners and detergents, industrial, feed and pet food, and personal care, according to a profile of Jungbunzlauer on bloomberg.com.

Jungbunzlauer prides itself on manufacturing “biodegradable ingredients using renewable raw materials” and has manufacturing facilities in Austria, France, Germany, and Canada.

New space

The new Jungbunzlauer Application Technology Center is located in Chicago, Illinois (an area central to the food, beverage, and feed industries, as well as near several prominent beauty makers and other suppliers).

“Our Chicago office will help us to create a more efficient environment to help our North American customer base to continue creating healthier, safer and tastier products,” explains a company media release about the new technology center.

Same strategy

The company is modeling the new site on a similar ingredient technology center it has in Germany. “Since the opening of our European AppliTech facility, our team has been able to work within the market to help create important and unique products across various industries, including food, beverage, personal care and construction,” states the release. And Jungbunzlauer clearly aims to replicate that success with its new Chicago tech center.

“By streamlining efficiency, our North American team will be able to focus on the North American market,” notes the company.

The center is, of course, a sales vehicle: “With the ability to conduct trials and produce demos our sales staff can continue their work to enhance finished products,” explains the media release announcing the tech center. “With their knowledge base and skill set, this new facility will provide the outlet to further test our functional ingredients.”

Bio-based beauty ingredients

The Swiss company makes ingredients for use in personal care and cosmetics across categories, from color cosmetics to skin care, from hair care to fragrance and on through oral care, deodorant, soaps, and bath products.

Like all biotech ingredient makers, Jungbunzlauer converts natural feed stocks like corn, grains, and sugar beets into ingredients using industrial-scale fermentation (facilitated by carefully engineered bacteria, yeast, or algae).
