The venue is the AMBA Hotel in the heart of London’s West End for the in-cosmetics Formulation Summit and the two-day programme has been confirmed.

Held over two days, the 19th and 20th of October, the event has attracted speakers from companies that include The Body Shop, Clarins, L’Oreal, Coty and Procter & Gamble, in a programme that includes some of the top experts in the industry and follows on from the success of the inaugural event last year.

The programme has one specific theme for each day – with the first day being devoted to Protecting Skin and Hair, while the second day is all about Protecting Products, Bright ideas and Brand Integrity.

“Product protection is an essential part of today’s cosmetic industry. The second Formulation Summit will showcase the latest innovations to be found in the protection sector and highlight new techniques. As well as the insights available, the event also gives visitors a unique opportunity to talk on a one-to-one basis with experts,” said Cathy Laporte, Exhibition Director.

Hair and skin protection

The first day’s programme is split into four sessions, focusing on the pollution trend, different approaches to pollution protection, defense mechanisms, the different active ingredients targeting pollution and testing protection claims.

The keynote presentation will start of the four sessions off and will be given by Gabrielle Sore, who is the Scientific Communication Director at L’Oréal Research & Innovation.

During this presentation, Sore will focus on how pollution is overwhelming skin’s defences, the key biochemical markers for protection and the full implications of research in this area.

Other presentations during the first day will look at what’s coming out of Asia, a market that is ahead of the game on anti-pollution treatments, the best means to form a protection shield and the part that UV protection can also play.

Protecting products and brand identity

The second day of the summit will contain three session focused on preservation and stability, rethinking approaches to product stability and how to protect ideas and the entire supply chain.

The programme will start off with a key note from Dr. Joanna Rowland, project manager at the National Centre of Environmental Toxicology who will focus on the preservative ‘crisis’ and look at the realistic alternatives that are available to formulators.

Other presentations during the day will include a look at what green brands can do to preserve and stay natural, the science behind stability and then in the final session the focus will switch to the importance of patents and audits in protecting brand identity.
