The world’s biggest cosmetics company has confirmed that it is going ahead with the acquisition of a tiny France-based skin player with a very long name.

L’Oréal Société  executives said that they have submitted a firm offer to the owner of Société Des Thermes de Saint-Gervais-Les-Bains, a family-owned skin care and personal care business, based in Louzy, Western France.

Although terms, conditions and the cost of the acquisition were not revealed, L’Oréal has said that it expects the acquisition to be completed in the next few months.

Licensing rights to the skin care lines

The deal aims to secure licensing rights to use the Saint-Gervais Mont-Blanc Brand, a line of skin care products which is formulated using the thermal waters from the area.

The company’s skin care portfolio is marketed as being hypoallergenic, while being formulated for sensitive skin as well as containing safe preservatives that guarantee the security and tolerance of the formulation.

The range includes six different product lines focused on sun care, anti-ageing, cleansing, redness and irritations, greasy skin types and a treatment for acne, and the whole range includes botanical extracts from the surrounding Alps region.

Skin care from famed thermal waters

The deal will also require consultation with the Municipality of Saint-Gervais-Les-Bain, a small thermal ski and hiking commune on the French-Swiss borders, and consultation with the Rivadis Group employees.

As well as skiing and hiking, Saint-Gervais is also famed for its underground lake and thermal waters, which in tandem with skiing, has given way to a number of thermal spa resorts and associated businesses.

The beautifying properties of those thermal waters have helped developed one of the largest thermal resorts in Europe, in turn playing a crucial role in the development of the Saint-Gervais Mont Blanc skin care brand.
