Alpecin expands its global reach into the China market

Hair loss shampoo Alpecin is extending its global reach with a new market expansion services deal with DSKH that will see the brand available throughout China.

Owned by the Germany-based Dr. Wolff Group, Alpecin has built a strong name for itself throughout Europe as the go to hair loss shampoo and treatment brands for men.

Presently it is the number one men’s hair loss shampoo in Great Britain, Romania, Germany, Switzerland and Austria, while the brand was introduced to the Asian market with the help of DSKH when it launched in Hong Kong back in 2013, where it has also gone on to become the best seller in its category.

Already available throughout Asia

Since then the brand has also been partnered with DSKH to launch in a number of other Asian markets, including Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan and Thailand.

The secret to the success of the product is said to be the inclusion of a caffeine extract that helps to stimulate the scalp and can help to restore hair growth and vitality.

The brand has been gradually rolled out throughout Europe and to other markets worldwide throughout the course of the last ten years, but now the Dr. Wolff Group is targeting market growth for men’s grooming products in China.

DSKH’s Business Unit Healthcare division is providing its market expansion services, targeting registration, importation, sales, distribution, logistics and collection services for the brand throughout China.

Roll out will start with three products

The campaign to roll out the brand in the country will begin with three Alpecin products that will be sold at leading China drug store chain Watsons.

“The extension of our partnership with DKSH to enter China shows our confidence in the collaboration,”​ said Eduard R. Dörrenberg, Managing Director, Dr. Wolff Group.

“The business performance of our brand in the Asian market has been tremendously successful. There is no doubt that the strategic thinking and diligent operation of the DKSH team have contributed to the substantial growth and penetration of Alpecin in the Asian markets.”

The rise of caffeine in men’s grooming

Caffeine is growing in popularity and has especially proven to be popular in men’s grooming products worldwide.

In October last year a new line of shaving products from the US-based Pacific Shaving Company that includes caffeine as a means of helping to quell angry shaving rashes and give the morning shave a boost.

Although caffeine’s antioxidant and cell stimulating properties have seen it is included in a number of skin care products and even topical hair loss products, this is thought to be the first shaving line to feature the ingredient.

According to the development team at Pacific Shaving, caffeine has been incorporated into its latest line, consisting of a shaving cream and an after shave, as an effective vasoconstrictor and antioxidant that can help reduce the appearance of redness and keep the skin healthy.

But in addition to the skin care benefits, the company is also marketing the product line on the strength of the stimulating effect the caffeine contained in the product can have once it is absorbed by the skin, which the company claims will “help liven up your morning shave routine”.
