Lonza forms partnership in South America with ingredients player Lamberti
The Lonza Consumer Care Business has signed a long-term commercial collaboration with Lamberti as a means of extending its reach in the personal and home care ingredients market in South America.

Italy-based Lamberti has expertise in a wide range of cosmetic ingredients, including thickeners, stabilizers, conditioners and emollients that are distributed in a wide range of markets throughout South America, giving Lonza crucial leverage there.

In particular, Lonza says that the partnership will give its customers the benefits of a range of complementary technologies, including Lamberti’s natural hair-conditioning polymers.

Likewise, Lamberti will benefit from Lonza’s existing business infrastructure in South America, which includes customer relationships and sales and technical support teams in Brazil, Argentina and a number of other countries in the region.

“Our new commercial collaboration with Lamberti gives us products and technologies that expand our ability to serve pressing consumer needs in South America, particularly in the hair-care market,”​ said Sven Abend, head of Lonza Consumer Care and chief strategy officer for the company.

“Brazil, for example, where Lonza has manufacturing, R&D and office facilities in Sao Paolo, Igarassu and Salto, has the second highest demand in South America for general hair-care products and is number one in conditioner demand.”

Increasing footprint for natural skin care and hair care polymers

Roberto Porro, Lamberti general manager, pointed out that the deal will enable it to extend its reach in South America for its organic and botanical-based skin care ingredients, as well as its hair conditioning systems.

Likewise, Lonza will benefit from being able to offer a range of products and technologies that are suited to the needs of consumers in the South American region, specifically Lamberti’s Idilli-Guar+TM product, a polymer with strong hair conditioning properties.

Last year Lonza’s specialty ingredients were the driving force in the group’s 3% growth in revenues, which the company said was mainly attributable to its strong innovation and technology pipeline.

The acquisition of Arch Chemicals in 2011 gave the specialty chemicals division a significant boost, helping to drive its footprint globally and giving it specific capabilities in the microbial control category.
