Swallowfield, a UK-based contract manufacturer, has struck up a deal with Jahwa, one of the largest domestic personal care players in China, to supply a range of products British-made products.

The UK company, which develops formulations and packaging, as well as manufacturing, says the deal aims to significantly expand its business in China beyond its current reach, which is largely focused on serving domestic and European players.

Jawha and Swallowfield have been working together for almost nine years ago, but until now their business relationship has focused on Jawha manufacturing personal care products that have supplied to Swallowfield clients in Europe and the UK.

Swallowfield set to manufacture six products for Jahwa

Jahwa, which is based in Shanghai, has commissioned Swallowfield to manufacture and supply six products for import into the China market, which includes a shave gel and a post foaming shower gel in five varieities.

The deal was sealed after Jahwa sent a team of four technicians to the company’s UK manufacturing facilities to identify business opportunities between the two companies.

The deal comes after Swallowfield says it spent two years assessing how it could find opportunities to export into this fast-growing market, which has seen the cosmetics and personal care category growth at double digit rates on an annual basis.

Tapping into huge growth in the China market

Growth in China has been derived from an expanding middle class population, whose increased income has resulted in an appetite for more diverse and sophisticated cosmetic and personal care products.

“We are very proud to have commenced manufacturing product for the Chinese market, having overcome a number of regulatory hurdles to put the arrangement in place,” said Jamie Bachelor, International Operations Director, Swallowfield.

“The deal further strengthens our bonds with Jahwa United and we hope it signals the start of a successful export relationship with the Chinese market.”
