Clariant reveals expertise in formulation technologies
On the back of specialty chemicals provider Clariant further developing its ‘Secret Code of Beauty’ portfolio, we sat down to discuss how the brand’s investment in innovative technology is enabling it to provide more efficient ingredients.

Boris Segalowitch, head of sales, personal care revealed to CosmeticsDesign-Europe.com how a lesser known cosmetics industry technology, 'Nanocon', is acting as a game changer for the brand in enhancing its ingredients.

“Take for example Perlogen,” he says, referring to Clariant’s liquid pearlizing concentrate that features a cryst

alline lamellar structure that mimics natural pearls for rinse-off products such as shampoos and cleansers.

This patented blending technology makes it possible for solids to be blended together more efficiently thus the ingredient can deliver an intensive silky shine appearance to the formulation at low in-use concentrations," he tells this publication.

Technology enables the mixing of solids without heat

Segalowitch explains that Nanocon also enables solids of even small amounts to be melted and then mixed at a rate where there’s no need for heat.

Clariant inherited the technology back in 2011 when it acquired Oberhausen technology center, a privately owned company, specialised in transforming new sustainable and innovative technologies into cost efficient consumer products.

Boris says the company, although an expert in its field at the time, was small and Clariant took Nanocon to a new level to adapt to all chemicals and the latest market needs.

With this particular technology he stresses that there is no limitation with batch size – "the quantity is flexible meaning we are able to be even more catered to customer requirements."

Focusing on improving its beauty portfolio

Clariant's initial 'Secret Code of Beauty' concept, launched last year, features a portfolio of sustainable specialty ingredients for skin and hair care formulations.

According to the company, building on the success of this concept, this year's latest innovations strengthen the current range with more trend-focused products.

"More and more consumers prefer natural cosmetics for their daily personal care. They want products that are pure, safe and more ecological – without compromising on quality or performance," Boris concludes.
