L’Oréal adopts new technology aimed at enhancing packaging quality and accuracy
L’Oréal has forged a deal with Siemens that will see it invest in new software aimed at enhancing both product innovation and the quality for its global packaging operations.

The cosmetics giant has invested in Teamcentre software, which is a product lifecycle management (PLM), which will be used by all of L’Oréal’s teams involved in the product development processes for packaging.

Siemens chosen for strong PLM capabilities

“Siemens’ PLM software was selected following an extensive evaluation process which included major providers in the PLM market,” said Martin Rhein, L’Oréal group operations CIO.

“Teamcenter was selected because of the PLM portfolio’s breadth, adaptability to the L’Oréal Processes and Data Model requirements and user-friendly interface, and because of the knowledge demonstrated by Siemens PLM Software during the selection phase.”

According to L’Oréal, implementation of the new software will also bring a string of other advantages, not only to the development, but also to the manufacturing process.

Sharing packaging configurations and innovations

"It will allow us to share packaging configurations and innovative ideas between different technical departments, standardize specifications, and thus help to reduce time and product cost,” said Philippe Thuvien, L’Oréal group development and packaging director.

“We will also be able to capture and manage our corporate know-how, creating a solid foundation for a future of innovation and growth.”

According to Siemens, L’Oréal’s move towards a PLM platform is part of a global trend whereby consumer goods manufacturers are moving towards more standardised and higher quality manufacturing practises.

Rollout of the software will commence in the coming months and will take place on a global basis.
