Suffer from skin redness? Merck develops latest filler for skin correction
Skin redness may be due to dermal reasons like rosacea, acne or just a very strong blood circulation in some areas of the face but is one that is undesired by many people; now ingredients supplier Merck has developed its latest filler to combat this effect.

The launch of RonaFlair Balance Green completes Merck's portfolio of cosmetic functional fillers for skin correction and is the latest product to deal with skin redness issues, developed thanks to the company monitoring the consumer trends.

The matte and transparent green tone of the new ingredient claims to help diminish skin redness, and joins the RonaFlair Balance Colors range, which already comprises red, gold, and blue.

The powders consist of extremely small-sized effect pigments that achieve high coverage without a lustrous appearance.

On-going trend

Judith Rahner, senior communications manager Pigments & Cosmetics at Merck Performance Materials tells CosmeticsDesign-Europe.com that “In our opinion the desire for flawless skin is a main and on-going trend.”

By monitoring this trend, Rahner says that Merck was able to develop its new range, going along the lines of ‘getting rid of’ undesired reactions.

“RonaFlair Balance Green offers an instant and optical solution for this desire,” she continues. “By making use of additive colour mixing rules, interference green will even out a reddish appearance on the skin. RonaFlair Balance Green perfectly supports active ingredients with anti-inflammatory properties.”

“While those actives need a certain amount of time to show their effect, RonaFlair Balance Green shows an immediate optical effect on the skin. It is useful in both skin care products as well as colour cosmetic products.”

Testing

The RonaFlair Balance Green has been tested on several skin types, with skin redness reduced significantly.

According to Merck studies, a 5% concentration of RonaFlair Balance Green reduced redness by 17%; and a 10% concentration diminished skin redness by as much as 30%.

As Rahner mentions, the new ingredient is suitable for facial applications, first and foremost for anti-acne products, concealers and foundations. Improved light stability ensures that the functional filler can also be used in products supplied in transparent packaging.
