Packaging firm turns to technology to combat counterfeit cosmetics
The luxury sector is often targeted with counterfeit items looking to replicate premium products at a low cost, and an Italian manufacturer is looking to combat this by signing an agreement with an anti-counterfeit technology specialist.

Luxury carton supplier Grafiche Bramucci has teamed up with Ingenia Technology for the latter to provide its anti-diversion and anti-counterfeiting solution.

The deal will enable the Italian firm to provide its cosmetics, fragrance and luxury products customers with Ingenia's unique Laser Surface Authentication technology.

Vital

"With the rise of illicit trade within the luxury sector and given our prestigious customer portfolio, it is vital that Grafiche Bramucci is able to offer the very best solutions for anti-counterfeiting and anti-diversion," commented Francesca Bramucci, director and owner, Grafiche Bramucci.

"Ingenia has worked closely with us to provide a world-leading, fully integrated solution that is tailored to our specific needs."

Grafiche Bramucci has installed Ingenia's scanning and coding system as part of a comprehensive anti-counterfeiting and anti-diversion initiative.

LSA involves scanning each individual carton to create a 'fingerprint' based on the intrinsic, naturally occurring, microscopic randomness of the surface of the item.

As a result Grafiche Bramucci is now able to offer its customers a covert anti-counterfeiting and anti-diversion solution to protect their prestigious designer brands.

Scan and secure

The partnership also sees Ingenia's first installation to-date of a double scan-head, which allows the LSA system to scan the inside as well as the outside of each product.

This ensures that Grafiche Bramucci can secure all their customers' cartons regardless of design requirements or material type.

"As a strategic partner, Grafiche Bramucci provides Ingenia with further experience of the challenges faced by luxury brands and greater access to key businesses within this vital market sector," added Andrew Gilbert, business development director, Ingenia Technology.

"It further endorses the ability of our LSA solution to fit into wider security initiatives as well as provide an effective layer of protection against counterfeiting and diversion."
