German packaging provider helps brands meet sustainability goals
Seufert Transparente Verpackungen (STV) has teamed up with sustainability consultants natureOffice in an effort to help cosmetic brands with their environmental commitments.

The venture offers a carbon neutral printing service to cosmetic companies so that they can brand their clear or translucent packaging as ‘carbon neutral’, thus making obvious its commitment to greener packaging.

According to the PET packaging provider, with the sustainable consultants on-board,it can calculate the CO2 emissions of every project – from production right through to delivery – offering clients the opportunity to offset these via a choice of high quality schemes.

To demonstrate environmental commitment, our clients can opt for ‘Our print is carbon neutral’ logo for their transparent packaging, which is then strengthened with a unique, project-specific tracking number.”

Demonstrating commitment to the environment

STV’s products are already said to have sound environmental credentials, having previously offered 85 per cent recycled R-PET plastic to its customers.

According to its managing director Thomas Pfaffs, the decision to provide this new service is all down to customer demand.

With companies putting themselves under greater pressure to meet tough environmental and sustainability targets – and consumers increasingly demanding that they do so – brands must now not only have a commitment to carbon neutrality, but also demonstrate it.”

Pfaffs goes on to say that he believes that carbon neutral printing offers brands considerable competitive advantage by enabling them to attract new customers and retain existing ones. “It helps companies take responsibility, reduce greenhouse gases and show their customers and stakeholders a strong commitment to the environment.”

How it works

According to the managing director, the carbon footprint of each project is calculated using an online platform from natureOffice, taking into account production of the plastic film, printing, processing and finishing, and even delivery.

From there clients can then choose how they wish to offset the CO2 produced via a selection of carbon offset projects and the purchase and binding suspension of approved certificates of climate protection.

Finally, a unique reference number is created for each project, which can be printed onto the client’s products and tracked via natureOffice’s website.
