Botanical extract ingredients players Alban Muller has launched two new skin care ingredients obtained from the development of a salicylic acid extracted from wintergreen.

The two ingredients are Amipreserve, a natural preservative and Amiperfect, an anti-ageing complex that targets an enhanced complexion.

Alban Muller says that it has turned to advanced extraction technology to develop the salicylic acid from wintergreen leaves, which is a plant that has been traditionally used by native American Indians to treat a wide range of skin conditions and ailments.

More effective salicylic acid

The process it has used produces a pure molecule of the salicylic acid which is said to make it even more effective and targeted for the active functions the company has developed the two new ingredients for.

Salicylic acid has a similar component to aspirin and has been used for a wide number of skin care applications, most notably for acne treatments, but also for psoriasis, warts and corns.

It works primarily as a bacteriocide, helping provoke the epidermis skin cells to shed more easily, opening up pores and neutralising bacteria within. This helps to prevent pores from clogging up, in turn allowing for new skin cell growth.

Amipreserve targets bacteria, yeast and mould

According to Alban Muller, Amipreserve is currently the only completely natural and eco-friendly preservative on the market to have been accepted by the major natural and organic regulatory authorities.

The company also claims that the preservative has been tested as an effective preservative on a variety of bacteria, yeast and mould, to provide an effective anti-microbial solution that is both odourless and colourless.

Amiperfect targets anti-microbial and exfoliation

Amiperfect has also been developed as an ecoresponsible natural ingredient that relies on its keratolytic, anti-microbial and anti-inflammatory properties to purify and exfoliate the skin, in turn smoothing out blemishes and wrinkles and encouraging epidermis regeneration.

It is also said to refine the skin texture, leading to a smoother and softer epidermis, ultimately helping the complexion to look more radiant and luminous, the company claims.

Alban Muller launched both of these ingredients at the in-cosmetics show in Barcelona, April 17 -19.
