Evonik Industries, a manufacturer of organomodified silicones has developed a silicone emulsion conditioning agent for hair that serves additional benefits such as heat protection and colour retention.

According to Evonik, Abil ME 45 is a multiple benefit agent that acts as an intensive conditioner that efficiently maintains and regenerates the healthy look and soft feel of hair. Delivered as a microemulsion, the agent is also said to be easy to process and can be added to formulations with simple stirring.

High level of performance

Abil ME 45 does not contain preservatives and even at a low concentration is said to achieve a high level of performance. “It is stable and keeps its colour appearance over time and in the presence of perfumes.”

In addition, the very homogeneous distribution of the silicone quat in the microemulsion is said to offer a significant competitive advantage in final formulations, enabling for example “clear shampoo formulations and reducing the risk of build–up effects on hair fibres.”

Envonik recommends the agent for a broad range of applications in the hair care market, including: hair conditioning rinses, conditioning shampoos, leave-in conditioners, hair and body shampoos, styling products and hair dyes.

Sustainability

According to Evonik’s chairman Klaus Engel, the company strives to offer its customers high-quality products and solutions that help reduce the consumption of natural resources, make more efficient use of energy, cut CO2 emissions and improve the quality of life.

As an industrial corporation with worldwide operations, we want to play our part in increasing the sustainability and fairness of the global economy. We are firmly committed to implementing the ten principles of the Global Compact,” says Engel.

Evonik introduced a Global Social Policy in 2009, a compact that sets out the social standards to be applied by the Group worldwide. The silicone manufacturer also makes a substantial contribution to sustainable development through its commitment to the chemical industry’s Responsible Care programme.
