Reed Exhibitions, organizers of the in-cosmetics Asia event claim that nearly 4,000 attendees made the event a success, in spite of the fact that it had to be re-scheduled due to the threat of floods.

Held in Bangkok, Thailand, last month, the event attracted a total of 3,865 visitors from over 53 countries. Breaking the visitor numbers down, 2,825 of the registered visitors were from Thailand, while 1,040 visitors travelled from all parts of the globe to be at the three-day show.

Originally the event had been scheduled for the first week of November, but the threat of flooding in the Northern part of the city and the possibility of disruption to the show, located in the southern part of the city, led to the decision to reschedule the event for the following month.

The organizers were worried that having to reschedule the show at the very last minute would affect attendance numbers. The big concern was that many individuals would not be able to reschedule their travel plans with such short notice.

Innovation Zone goes large

This year’s event featured the Innovation Zone for the second time and the organizers claim it was more successful this year thanks to the inclusion of a new format that utilized 30 display boxes to highlight the latest ingredient innovation from key industry players.

Companies that participated in the Innovation Zone included Bioland, with its Bio-FRGE ingredient, an extract of Korean ginseng that is fermented with lactobacillus to give it anti-aging properties; together with Brenntag Specialties with its Soft Sphere LL 8210, a spherical-shaped fine silica powder that imparts smoothness and fine touch to skin care formulations.

This area of the show also included the new Innovation Zone Best Ingredient Award, to recognize the most innovative novel active or function ingredient to combine science and product features that demonstrate benefits to both manufacturers and end-users.

Gold award goes to... Lonza!

The Gold award was given to Switzerland-based Lonza for its ReGeniStem Rice, an ingredient that is described as being an anti-aging active derived from Himalayan red rice that is cultivated in a bioreactor. It was awarded the prize for material efficiency, sustainability and innovation.

The Silver award went to Lipotec for its Adifyline ingredient, a novel hexapeptide that aims at counteracting signs of skin aging, while the bronze prize went to Unipex for its Capixly, a complex designed to counteract hair loss.

The educational program was also said to have drawn large crowds, which was highlighted by the very well attended Formulating with Fragrances presentation, focusing on how companies can create and market desirable scents.

60 new exhibitors at this year's event

This year there were around 60 first time exhibitors at the event, which included Kat Personal Care Manufacturer from Malaysia. The company’s R&D manager, Meena Lee, stated that the show exceeded the company’s expectations.

“There were many visitors, distributors and suppliers in attendance, enabling us to generate good business leads from countries all over the world, including China, Egypt, Japan, Korea, the Philippines, Turkey and Uganda," Lee told Reed Exhibitions.

“It is the first time we have exhibited at the show, but we have already booked for next year and will use a bigger booth to attract even more visitors,” she added.
