Artichoke Plant
Keracyn obtained from the leaves of artichokes can provide a natural, active, protective and restorative shield for damaged hair, according to a recent study by natural active ingredient company, Provital Group.

Derived from the second year leaves of the artichoke plant, Keracyn also features a chemical composition of phenolic and cinnamic acid derivatives, flavonoids and organic acids.

Styling, combing, drying, perming or colouring all alter the hair’s protective shield. As a result it can become permeable, weak, dull, dry, frizzy or brittle.

After a screening we detected some plant extracts that could be interesting for hair protection and after some ex-vivo tests, Keracyn showed the best results.”Provital Group informed CosmeticsDesign-Europe.com

The active ingredients in Keracyn function as both a barrier and restorer of the hair. It prevents the penetration of chemical and biological elements, while also protecting the hair against environmental and chemical damage.

It can regulate water intake and outlet, which is related to many physical properties of hair, so that the fibre becomes less susceptible to static electricity, hair is then easier to comb and its brightness is improved.

While building a protective shield to the cuticle, the plant extract is said to also prevent the loss of hair substance so that density remains intact. As a result, the hair should then be more resilient, shiny, frizz-free and disciplined.

Tried and Tested

“We performed different ex-vivo tests in hair tresses. The strands were treated with neutral shampoo and a serum containing five per cent Keracyn, then rinsed and repeated ten times”, explains a Provital Group spokesperson.

“We then used SEM microscopy on the results, which showed how the cuticle scales closed thus preserving the hair integrity. With cuticle protection, we demonstrated that proteins were preserved, while the cuticle works as a real shield to protect hair.

“Lipids also became protected against external aggressions. Finally, we established how the hair keeps its shine even if it’s been dyed”, they concluded.

Keracyn can be found in strengthening and repairing hair products, shampoos, conditioners, foams, sprays, serums and specific products for brightness and hair dyes.
