UK-based Unilever has tapped into the trend of beauty from within products with its latest anti-ageing beauty supplement developed by its brand Dove Spa.

The Strength Within Anti-Wrinkle supplement has taken Dove Spa more than five years to develop, with the clinical and scientific research independently recognised by the British Skin Foundation, according to the company.

The beauty supplement aims to reduce lines and wrinkles and give smoother skin, hitting on the ageing global population driving the nutricosmetics supplements market, due to factors such as an increased awareness of self-care, age-prevention and general health and wellness.

Dove Spa claims to have tested the efficacy using clinical protocols versus a placebo control, with the final combination of actives tested in a 14-week clinical trial involving 164 women.

Likewise, Unilever explains that extensive research was also involved 500 female participants in order to pinpoint the ingredients that fight against the signs of ageing.

The ingredients used to formulate the beauty supplement include soy isoflavones extracted from soy beans, lycopene, and vitamins E and C.

Apparently, the actives within the supplement access the blood stream and reach the dermis through the large supply of blood.

The supplements are available from Dove Spa’s website at a price of £35 for 84 capsules, which is a 28 day supply.

Dove Spa was unavailable for further comment however there has been much research conducted on the ingredient lycopene, which is a bright red carotenoid that is found naturally in a range of red-coloured fruits including tomatoes, melons, papayas and pink grapefruits.

A number of studies suggest the potential of the ingredient to protect cells against the damage caused by reactive oxygen species, including those caused by UV radiation to the skin, and it appears in many dietary supplements designed to help protect the skin against UV damage.
