Fenchem is launching a herbal extract formula developed to lighten the skin, targeting the growing skin lightening market in both the Asia Pacific region and worldwide.

According to the Nanjing, China-based company the formula is extracted and concentrated from Chinese traditional medicine herbs polygonatum odoratum and chrysanthemum morifolium.

Both the herbal extracts are approved by food and drug bodies worldwide for product safety, which means the company will look to distribute the formula worldwide, through its various hubs in the Asia Pacific region, as well as North America and Europe.

However, the company is specifically hoping to target the fast growing market in Southeast Asia, where it is currently in the midst of expanding its business in line with this growth.

Effective tyrosinase inhibitor

Fenchem says the formulation has been clinically tested to prove it has a very good synergy effect on tyrosinase inhibition. Tyrosinase is a copper coloured enzyme that once triggered in skin cells can lead to skin pigmentation, including darkening, liver spots and freckles.

Inhibiting the release of tyrosinase invariably helps to maintain a whiter-looking skin.

As well as skin lightening, the formulation has also been proven to have other positive skin benefits, including moisturizing, antibiotic, anti-inflmmation and anti-aging, the company claims.

Benefits to formulators

Fenchem is hoping to woo formulation experts with its new launch with claims that the formula is odorless and colourless, is as effective at skin lightening as conventional solutions such as arbutin, as well as being low cost and very stable.

The formula is due to be officially launched at in-cosmetics Asia, in Bangkok, Thailand at the beginning of November, where the company’s technical and marketing team will be on hand at booth J30 to give more detailed information.

In June last year Fenchem announced the opening of a new business sector to focus on cosmetics ingredients as a part of its plan to concentrate on the industry.

The company has traditionally focused on nutritional supplements and functional food ingredients, but recent years have seen a number of new releases targeting the cosmetics market.
