The CosmeticsDesign team caught up with industry expert Irina Barbalova from Euromonitor International, who gave an overview of the industry as it pulls out of recession and highlighted the growing importance of technology.

As the industry emerges from a tough recession, the market is adapating to new consumer patterns, which include a polarisation of the mass and premium categories and continued opportunities in emerging markets.

Barbalova also pointed to the fact that technology is increasingly changing the way the industry operates, both in respect to the way cosmetics products are made and also the way they are marketed to consumers.
