Gattefossé launches malt-based anti-ageing active

A partnership with a brewing company has resulted in the launch of a new anti-ageing active from France-based ingredients company Gattefossé.

The new ingredient, Malt Secrets, is officially launched at in-cosmetics this week, held in Milan.

According to the company, the active is sourced from malted barley and is a concentrate of purified polyphenols.

The polyphenolic composition, which according to the company includes OPC – polyphenol dimers and ferulic acid, is what lends the ingredient its anti-ageing and antioxidant power, Gattefossé claims.

These characteristics mean it can be used in a wide range of skin care, make-up, sun care and hair care applications, the company said.

Natural certification

In addition to its antioxidant and anti-ageing properties, Malt Secrets is also one hundred percent natural and has been approved by Ecocert Greenlife. NPA certification is also pending, according to Gattefossé.

In addition to the Malt Secrets, Gattefossé will be showcasing a number of new textures and formulations possible with its ingredients portfolio at this week’s show.

The company has planned three ‘texture islands’ on its stand at the show and is inviting visitors to experience the new formulations.

Nude is a collection of foundation and tinted products that the company claims will suit any skin type. Girls includes coloured, sweet and fruity formulations suitable for colour cosmetics, and Luxury is a collection of what the company calls elegant and refined creams.
