The new Brio airless pack developed by France-based Lablabo was showcased at the recent HBA show in New York, with the company claiming that its aluminium foil pouch can help further protect the product.

Increasingly fragile skin care formulations are upping the demand for airless packaging, and Lablabo claims the Brio range has been developed to answer the need for increased product protection, at an affordable price.

Brio uses the company’s EasyFoil technology comprising of an aluminium foil welded onto two rigid components.

Protection from UV

Using aluminium helps to protect the formula over and above traditional airless packaging as it stops UV light from reaching the product, according to the company.

Furthermore, the particular choice of foil also helps to protect the product as it doesn’t contain adhesives that are traditionally used to join the different foil layers. According to Lablabo, the new foil is co-extruded; meaning there is no adhesive that might migrate into the product.

The decreased thickness of the co-extruded foil also helps to improve the restitution rate of the package; it is less stiff and can therefore collapse more completely.

Technical Director at the company Alain Guy explained that the EasyFoil technology is also customisable.

“Brio enables the customer to choose the pouch volume to the nearest ml without affecting the price. Thus, the restitution rate can accurately be adapted to the characteristics of the product in the bottle. The same applies to the pump’s dispensing dose, which can de adjusted to the customer’s requirements,” he said.

The pump for the new range was also designed specifically to be used with the EasyFoil system.

According to Lablabo, it has a self sealing actuator which helps to protect the product in the pump head, as well as an on/ off switch, which means an overcap is not necessary.

This combined with the lighter pump, Lablabo say it uses 20 per cent less plastic, helps to reduce the footprint of the products.

One of the aims of the new range was to keep the product affordable, Lablabo CEO jean-Phillippe Taberlet explained: “Throughout the two years it took to develop Brio, we consistently worked with the idea in mind that one shouldn’t have to choose between performance and price.”
