The latest launch from Israel-based skin care provider Dr Fischer hits several major trends, including UVA protection and anti-ageing.

Dr. Fischer’s carotenoid complex-based range is called Genesis and is an anti-aging skin care range that concentrates on providing UV protection as a means of reducing the effect of ageing.

The company has distribution in the United States, Europe and Israel, mainly through selective retail outlets such as pharmacies and beauty retailers.

Targeting UV protection for anti-ageing

“It’s well established that nine in ten cases of premature skin ageing is caused by exposure to sun radiation,” said Tali Dabas, marketing manager at Dr. Fishcher, a division of Fischer Pharmaceuticals.

“What’s not as well know is that 70 per cent of UV sun-induced skin damage is caused during regular daily activities and not necessarily at the beach or pool,” Dabas added.

The range includes a time-defying day cream, night cream and a serum, all formulated with key lycopene-based ingredient Lyc-O-Mato, provided by another Israel-based company, LycoRed.

Lyc-O-Mato complex

A number of studies have underlined the anti-ageing effects of lycopene, studies that have been formed the basis of the development for the Lyc-O-Mato complex.

Lyc-O-Mato is a tomato-derived carotenoid complex that also combines UV-filtering compounds.

The complex has been marketed for both topical skin care products, as well as for oral use in supplements that tap into the fast growing nutricosmetics trend.

Not a sunscreen

The complex is said to protect against UV damage and LycoRed has performed a number of studies using erythema - skin redness - as a measure of the ingredient’s efficacy.

While all three of the Genesis formulations include the lycopene ingredient and are oil-free, the day and night cream formulations include hyaluronic filling spheres, Vitamins A, E and B5, while the serum contains hyaluronic acid, Q10 and polyamides.

Although the product line is being marketed on the grounds that it provides protection from accelerated wrinkling and premature ageing because of the broad spectrum UVB and UVA protection it provides, the line is clearly avoiding regular sunscreen claims.
